This report covers the history of the Rose Lake Wildlife Center, beginning with a brief history of the area. From there, the report goes on to discuss Rose Lake's participation in supporting and cultivating Michigan's wildlife from 1938 to 1986. The report also includes a list of projects that Rose Lake sponsored or was involved in and a list of employees that worked at the facility since its creation.

Between January and March 1983, 15 wild turkeys (3 toms, 12 hens) from Iowa and Pennsylvania were released at the Rose Lake Wildlife Research Center. The following winter, an additional 12 turkeys {2 toms, 10 hens} from Iowa were released. The primary purpose of this project was to estimate the present population size and distribution of wild turkeys in the Rose Lake area. A second objective was to gather information on privately raised and released domestic turkeys originating from game farm stock. For 1987, a minimum population of 126 turkeys was estimated based on sightings by the public as well as personal observation of both birds and tracks. The winter of 1986-87 was very mild and food plentiful, so the turkeys were less likely to leave cover to feed in open fields. Also, the birds were less visible due to the absence of snow this season. Fewer birds, therefore, were seen by the public.
