Black and white photograph of city jail and school in Clare, Michigan. Written on back of photograph : "City jail on left, 'new' school on right 1876-1891 (later used for fire hall city hall." The original one-room schoolhouse in Clare was built in 1876, so this "new" school would have likely been built later.

Black and white photograph from circa 1945-1955 of McEwan Street in downtown Clare, Michigan, looking south from just north of 5th Street. The bakery in the white building next to Houghton Drugs on the right has an interesting history. Opening in 1896 as Clare City Bakery, it was in continuous operation and a fixture in downtown until it almost closed in 2008, when the Clare Police Department banded together to save it. Since 2009 it has been owned and operated by the members of the police department and is now named "Cops and Doughnuts."
