Portrait of John Pulford, 1861-1865. Entered service in company A, Fifth Infantry, at organization, as First Lieutenant, June 19, 1861, at Fort Wayne, for 3 years, age 24. Commisioned June 10, 1861. Mustered Aug. 28, 1861. Commissioned Captain, company C, May 15, 1862. Mustered Jan. 17, 1863. Wounded in action at Malvern Hill, Va., July 1, 1862. Commissioned Major Dec. 14, 1862. Commissioned Lieutenant Colonel May 3, 1863. Mustered May 3, 1863. Wounded in action at Gettysburg, Pa., July 2, 1863, and at Wilderness, Va., May 5, 1864. Commissioned Colonel June 10, 1864. Mustered July 12, 1864. Wounded in action at Boydton Plank Road Oct. 27, 1864. Commanding First Brigade, Provost Division, June 27, 1865. Brevet Brigadier General, U.S. Volunteers, May 31, 1865, for good conduct and meritorious services during the war. Mustered out at Jeffersonville, Ind., July 5, 1865.
