Jackson, Charles. Enlisted in company G, Second Infantry, March 14, 1862, at Detroit, for 3 years, age 18. Mustered March 14, 1862. Joined regiment at Camp Winfield Scott April 13, 1862. On duty with company F, Seventeenth Infantry, from Jan. 30, 1864 to April 9, 1864. Corporal. Died near Petersburg, Va., July 1, 1864, of wounds received on the picket in front of Petersburg, Va., June 23, 1864. Payne, Sanford D., China. Enlisted in company H, Eighth Cavalry, as Quartermaster Sergeant, Nov. 1, 1862, at China, for 3 years, age 26. Mustered Feb. 3, 1863. Commissioned Second Lieutenant, company E, Dec. 31, 1864. Mustered Feb. 2, 1865. Reported as of company H, April, 1865. Commissioned First Lieutenant, company G, April 25, 1865. Mustered May 12, 1865. Reported as of company E, July, 1865. Mustered out at Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 22, 1865.
