Black and white photograph depicting an aerial view of Alpena, Michigan, with the channel connecting Lake Besser to Thunder Bay in the background. This image is a gift of the Besser Company, which was founded in 1904 in Alpena, pioneering the production of concrete blocks. The building with the smokestacks is presumably the foundry and machine shop used by Besser Company around the time of its founding.
