This is a digital image of a black glass ambrotype portrait of Sylvia Julia Joanna Bissonette ("Early Light Woman"). The modern ambrotype was created in 2022 by Shane Balkowitsch of Nostalgic Glass Wet Plate Studio in Bismark, North Dakota, for a project titled "Northern Plains Native Americans: A Modern Wet Plate Perspective." Bissonette is a member of the Oglala Lakota Nation and the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians and is a ninth-generation direct descendant of the Odawa chief Pontiac (Obwaandi'eyaag).
