Naturalization Records

This record group consists of the naturalization records of the 13th Circuit Court for Antrim County for the years 1863-1955. Includes declarations of intention (1863-1949), record of final papers (1868-93), orders admitting to citizenship (1904-6), naturalization record (1895-1906), and petition and record (1906-55). The record also includes petitions denied (1929), petitions granted (1929-55), and repatriations (1937-48).

This accession consists of the naturalization records of the 26th Circuit Court for Alpena County for the years 1871-1982. Includes certificates (ca. 1920-1982), declarations of intention (1871-1952), naturalization oaths (1871-1982), naturalization journals (1878-1906), and petition and record (1907-1982). Also includes repatriations, petitions granted/denied, monthly reports, and certificate stubs. Includes general index (1871-1936).

This record group consists of the naturalization records of the Circuit Court for Alcona County for the years 1869-1958. This includes the declarations of intention (1869-1951), that document the declarer's name; age; personal characteristics; date and place of birth; current residence; country of origin; place of emigration; name of vessel; date and place of arrival; and last foreign residence. The petitions for naturalization (1907-1958) document much the same information as the declarations of intentions but include information on the number of years living in the U.S. and Michigan; occupation; date and place of embarkation; means of conveyance; name of sponsor in this country; names of spouse and children with their dates of birth, marriage date, and length of residence in U.S. and Michigan; names, addresses and occupations of witnesses and the length of time witnesses have known the petitioner. The record group also includes petitions granted and denied (1936-1955); certificate of naturalization stubs (1909-1929); correspondence on specific citizenship cases (c. 1920 – 1958); naturalization record of adults and minors (1904-1907) and a general index (c.1869 - c.1955).

This record group consists of the naturalization records of the 20th Circuit Court of Michigan for Allegan County for the years 1850-1956. The first set of records are the declarations of intent. Records before 1906 includes name, country of origin, and date of the statement. After 1906, additional information was added including age, occupation, physical characteristics, date and place of birth, current residence, place of emigration, name of vessel, last foreign residence, and date and place of arrival. The second set of records are the petitions for citizenship. Information provided in these records includes much of that found in the declarations of intent with this additional information: date and place of embarkation; date and place of arrival; means of conveyance; name of sponsor in U.S.; name of spouse and children with birth dates, marriage date, and lengths of residence in U.S. and Michigan; and names of witnesses with their occupations, addresses, and length of time knowing the petitioner. The record group also includes repatriation records (1941-1952), applications for repatriation (1930-1955) and a surname index.
