The Michigan Public Service Commission has three governor-appointed commissioners who serve staggered three-year terms. The Michigan Public Service Commission regulates electrical and gas utilities, telecommunications services, oil and gas pipelines, and electric transmission lines.
The Bureau of Professional Licensing (BPL) receives consumer complaints and allegations against licensed Health and Occupational Code professionals, gathers preliminary information, determines whether an investigation or inspection should be authorized, and conducts authorized inspections and investigations. BPL drafts formal administrative complaints and attends compliance conferences to attempt to resolve the complaints, drafts, serves, monitors and reports all disciplinary final orders, and processes appeals. BPL processes applications for reinstatement of revoked or suspended licenses or re-classification of disciplinary limited licenses, maintains BPL’s disciplinary records for professions, complies with all FOIA requests, facilitates all board meetings, conducts pre-licensure inspections, issues citations, and provides administrative support for the Health Professional Recovery Program (HPRP), including monitoring contract compliance, processing participant appeals, and reporting.
The Corporations Division in the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs facilitates the formation of business entities in Michigan and maintains a record of documents filed by those business entities. The Archives of Michigan receives only transfers of corporation annual reports from the Corporations Division. Researchers who wish to obtain copies of other filings should contact the Corporations Division.
