Biography or Historical Note: Mathews, Samuel. Ingham County. Enlisted in company G, Third Infantry, May 10, 1861, at Grand Rapids, for 3 years, age 22. Mustered June 10, 1861. Wounded in action at Groveton, Va., Aug. 29, 1862. Re-enlisted Dec. 23, 1863, at Brandy Station, Va. Mustered Dec. 23, 1863. Transferred to company A, Fifth Infantry June 10, 1864. Mustered out at Jeffersonville, Ind., July 5, 1865.
