Black and white photograph from souvenir folder of Big Rapids, published in approximately 1907, depicting the Michigan state fish hatchery, located in Paris, Michigan, near Big Rapids, Michigan. The fish hatchery was the second fish rearing site established by the state of Michigan. It was established in 1881 on the Muskegon River.

Black and white photograph from souvenir folder of Big Rapids, published in approximately 1907, depicting the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Morris in Big Rapids, Michigan. E. C. Morris established a dry goods and clothing store, later being joined by A. Amos Crane under the name Morris Crane. In 1901, he assumed the role of president of the newly formed Citizens State Bank. Morris died in 1903.

Black and white photograph from souvenir folder of Big Rapids, published in approximately 1907, depicting the Mercy Hospital (now Mecosta County Medical Center) and grounds in Big Rapids, Michigan. Mercy Hospital was founded in 1879 by Sister Mary Joseph Lynch of the Sisters Of Mercy. The original building was destroyed by fire in 1882. The building in the image was built in 1883, near the present-day Mecosta County fairgrounds, but also succumbed to fire in 1908. The hospital originally served primarily men brough to Big Rapids by the timber boom, but quickly expanded to include a wing for women.

Black and white photograph from souvenir folder of Big Rapids, published in approximately 1907, depicting the home of Calvin W. Doe in Big Rapids, Michigan. Trained in cabinet making, Doe moved from Maine to Big Rapids in 1870, where he continued working as a cabinet maker until being bequeathed a large fortune from a millionaire relative in California. In 1900 he opened a broom factory, and in 1904 he retired from all business practices. Doe was elected mayor of Big Rapids in both 1904 and 1906, serving two terms.

Black and white photograph from souvenir folder of Big Rapids, published in approximately 1907, depicting the home of A. Amos Crane in Big Rapids, Michigan. Crane was partner with E. C. Morris in the popular and successful dry goods and clothing store Morris Crane on Michigan Avenue, which was established by Morris in 1884, and which Crane joined in 1891. After E. C. Morris's death in 1903, Crane took over the management of the store.

Black and white photograph from souvenir folder of Big Rapids, published in approximately 1907, depicting St. Mary's Church on Marion and William Streets in Big Rapids, Michigan. This church building was constructed in 1902 after the 1869 building was destroyed by fire. In 1963 it was replaced by a more modern structure. St. Mary's was the first Catholic parish of Big Rapids, organizing in the 1850s.

The dam was opened in 1906 by the Grand Rapids-Muskegon Power Co. (now Consumers Energy Company).

Black and white photograph from souvenir folder of Big Rapids, published in approximately 1907, depicting the home of Charles P. Judson in Big Rapids, Michigan. Judson, born in 1861 near Schoolcraft (Mich.), moved to Big Rapids in 1882, partnering with his brother-in-law to form Cole Judson, a store selling primarily hardware and mill supplies. In 1886, Judson went into business by himself, opening a hardware store in the Fairman Block, and later purchasing and moving into the Judson Block on Michigan Avenue. He was married to Jessie M. Fairman in 1886 in Big Rapids.

Black and white photograph from souvenir folder of Big Rapids, published in approximately 1907, depicting an aerial view of part of the Ward Bros. factory in Big Rapids, Michigan. Included in this image are the offices, mills, and lumber yards. Ward Bros. started out running a saw mill and dimension factory in 1895, and began manufacturing maple and beech flooring in 1902. The factory in the image was built in 1905. Ward Bros. also operated a saw mill and retail coal and lumber yarn, both of which are shown in this image.

The library (including grounds, building and books) was bequeathed by Harriet C. Phelps in the late 1890s. The building, built in 1885, would later be used as the City Library, and then the Mecosta County Historical Museum.

Black and white photograph from souvenir folder of Big Rapids, published in approximately 1907, depicting the Upper Dam or Tioga Co. Dam in Big Rapids, Michigan. Built in 1866, it was originally constructed to suit logging purposes, raising the water behind it allowing for sorting of logs, serving this purpose until 1907. In 1889, it was first used to generate electicity. The dam was washed out in 1912.

Judson purchased the Judson Block in 1903, when his hardware business had outgrown its location in the Fairman Block right next door. The building was constructed in 1882.

The company was founded in 1903, and produced primarily parlor suits, rockers, and office, desk and dining chairs. In three years, it had become the largest employer in Big Rapids.
